002. Scary Speaking Experiences and their Root Cause

In today’s episode, I share my own personal experiences of awful and scary public speaking and what led me to discover the key to overcome the fear 25 years later.

I recall a time when I couldn’t utter a single sound in public. However, a decade later, I found myself delivering a 90-second speech that left a huge impact on my audience.

As soon as live streaming became a thing in the online world, I embraced it as an early adopter. Despite my belief that practice and experience would guarantee my success as a public speaker, I soon realized that it wasn’t enough. It was only through a change in my mindset and approach that I was able to transform my experience of speaking in public.

What a great story of transformation, Guilietta! What a great thing to have a reputation for.

Linda, Great introduction! Great music as well. I’ve listened to three of your most recent podcasts and enjoyed them. They will be truly useful for the many people out there who have fear issues around speaking. Getting at the root cause of this fear makes a lot of sense. Mine went way back to show and tell in first grade when the teacher made us kids without any speaking experience or understanding of storytelling to get up and do just that. I made myself sign up for every speech class in college and by my senior year I had developed a reputation for telling the funniest speeches on campus. What a transformation! But entirely possible with the kind of good guidance like you mention in these podcasts. Thank you!
