Episode 11:

How to create and market a new product

with Liz Stacco

Sometimes you need a product that doesn’t yet exist. You can wait for someone to come up with the idea, or you can go ahead and create it yourself. That’s what my guest, Liz Sacco did. When her son was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes, they were bothered that there was no small throwaway product to wipe the blood off his finger after testing. Learn how she made this happen from finding manufacturers to marketing.

Our Guest

Liz is the founder of Diabetic Dabs®, a company which produces disposable, non-toxic, absorbent testing wipes for blood glucose testing. In 2011, after her nine-year-old son, David, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, Liz discovered a need for a product that would easily and safely remove excess blood from David’s finger after each of the multiple daily blood glucose testings. After extensively searching the market for a convenient product for this purpose, she realized there was a void in the market. As a result, she conceived, patented, and developed Diabetic Dabs®. The mission of Diabetic Dabs® is to simplify the millions of lives affected by diabetes by improving their quality of life. She is passionate about making a difference in the diabetes community, and donates a portion of her earnings to diabetes research. Liz earned her B.A. in International Relations from Syracuse University. Prior to raising 4 very active boys, Liz worked for Merrill Lynch and Charles Schwab as a Financial Advisor. She has been a member of the Women’s Leadership Council for Lahey Health since January of 2016.
